WordPress MultiSite system with booking integration to DS for four tourism websites now online

Whenever a customer has multiple websites running on WordPress, one eventually wonders if there is a more elegant and effective way to manage each site. Especially when websites share strong similarities based on a master template, it makes sense to set up a MultiSite-System mit WordPress. Then, WordPress is installed only once and can serve an entire network of websites with their own domains, unique content, and individual style guidelines. Nevertheless, it is possible to assign a separate admin to each website so that only that person has access to the backend of the respective site where they need to make edits.

We recently designed and developed a WordPress MultiSite system for our client, K&K Ferienimmobilien GmbH & Co. KG. The task was to create modern tourism websites and booking websites that visually and textually entice people to take a vacation, have a high user experience, and lead the target audience to make a booking. This system was to be implemented for four websites.

Characteristic here are the individual colors and also easily modifiable individual sections that are tailored to the specific requirements of each destination. As in almost all our projects, we designed all the icons ourselves to ensure everything is optimized for the corporate design and has a cohesive appearance:

API integration with the booking system of Destination Solutions

One of the major challenges was enabling direct booking on the websites with API integration to the booking system of Destination Solutions (DS) for WordPress. Even when visiting the website, the visitor is tuned into having a great time in the holiday area. The call to action is clear: check the availability of the free holiday apartments. A sophisticated filtering system allows users to select the suitable accommodation from the available units. The data for the holiday apartments, such as images, texts, prices, and availability, is retrieved live from the DS server. The booking can then be made directly through the website. The data is passed back to DS and synchronized with other booking platforms where the holiday apartments are also offered. A technically sophisticated and excellent solution had to be developed individually because the DS API was still relatively new and no available plugins or scripts for WordPress were available until today.

What may pleasantly go unnoticed is the absence of a cookie banner. We try to avoid cookie notifications in most projects. We achieve this by developing websites that function without cookies. This improves the user experience and reduces frustration moments on websites. In this project, we also created custom icons and maps for the client, ensuring everything is aesthetically pleasing, consistent, and impactful in line with the corporate design.

Those who have followed us for a while may remember that we have previously worked on the Hafenresidenz Waren (Müritz) and the Zwei Wasser project – the old seamanship school in Wustrow. In 2015, we conceived and developed exposés, flyers, websites, and more when the Hafenresidenz Waren (Müritz) was being built and buyers were sought for the ownership and vacation apartments.
